SENIOR OF THE MONTH

Senior of the Month-September

Allison Stortzum daughter of Chris and Lori Stortzum has been selected by members of the MHS Faculty Council as Senior of the Month for September 2022. This program is sponsored by the Mid-America National Bank who established the program to recognize the accomplishments of outstanding senior students.

Allison participates in Student Council, Spanish Club, yearbook, volleyball, basketball, softball and is a class officer for the senior class. 

Allison is involved in her community with the Scotland Clever Clovers 4H Club, 4H Federation, and St Paul Church. 

She has been inducted into the National Honor Society and received the Michael J. O'Brien Memorial Citizenship Award. 

Allison enjoys reading and spending time outdoors in her free time.  

Allison has worked umpiring for MCGSL, lifeguarding, made shaved ice at The Shack, and babysat. 

After high school, she plans to go to a 4-year university to study communications and work in HR or run/own a business.  

Congratulations to Allison for being selected Senior of the Month for September, 2022!

♪ Congratulations to the following choir members who were selected for the ILMEA District IV Chorus: Addie Bainter, Sherman Bernards, Eliza Bernards, Andrew Butcher, Cullen Clow, Barrett Dennis, Hannah Hawkins, Quinn Kurasz, Celena Mangalaraj, Darah McFadden, Sam Powell, Griffin Schauble, Tyler Thurman, Eva Weiss and Julia Woell.    They will participate in the ILMEA District IV Festival at WIU on Saturday, November 5th.

College/University Application Deadlines

Many colleges and universities have application deadlines approaching in the next several weeks. Don't wait until the last minute to submit applications. If you need any assistance with the application process please contact your assigned counselor.

FAFSA
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now open for the 2023-24 school year. The State of Illinois requires that all seniors must complete the FAFSA application in order to graduate unless they choose to complete the FAFSA Non-participation Form. If you would like assistance with completing the FAFSA or if you would like a copy of the FAFSA Non-participation Form, please contact your assigned counselor.
Sophomore Career Expo
Thursday November 10th all sophomores will be participating in a Career Expo at the Spoon River College Macomb Outreach Center. This event will take place in the morning and students will return to the high school prior to lunch. Students will have an opportunity to learn about careers in Health Care, Human & Public Services, Art, Communication, Information Technology, Business, Agriculture, Food Service, Natural Resources, Skilled Labor, Manufacturing, and Logistics.

Dual Credit Info Night

On Wednesday, November 30th at 6pm in the Commons MHS will be hosting a Dual Credit information meeting regarding Dual Credit opportunities for the 2023-24 school year. Representatives from Spoon River College and Western Illinois University will be presenting and available to answer questions. 

Upcoming Open Houses


Graham Hospital School of Nursing will be hosting an Open House on Tuesday, November 29th from 5:30-7:00 pm in Canton. They will be discussing financial aid, our curriculum/program, and giving a tour of our school and simulation labs. Spoon River College Canton Campus will be holding a College Visit Day (Career Programs Edition) on Thrusday, December 1st from 9-11am. The event will be showcasing programs in Agriculture, Commercial Driver Training/Logistics, Computer Information Systems, Diesel & Power Systems Technology, Healthcare Career Programs, Medical Laboratory Technician, Nursing, Rail Transportation and Power System Technology, and Welding. BOMBER FAMILY FIVE AND DIME: CLOTHES AND TOY DRIVE

Hosted by MYLO 2023 Member: Lillian Lambert

Starting Monday November 7, 2022, collection bins will be set up in the schools. All donations of gently used clothes, toys, and books are much appreciated. All donations need to be turned in by November 28 – 30, 2022.

On Friday December 2, 2022, all donations will be organized and set up in the Macomb High School commons. On Saturday December 3, 2022, the doors will open at 10:00 AM and will be ending at 4:00 PM. Everyone is welcome to come and see if there is anything they would like to purchase for their family. There will also be hot chocolate and baked goods set up to enjoy at the drive.

Everything will be set up at a very small price, and all profit made will be donated to Big Brother Big Sister of McDonough County. Thank you for your help and participation to make this project possible.

About Lillian Lambert: Lillian Lambert is a senior at Macomb High School. She is the varsity girl’s swim team captain and just finished her marching band season as being the head drum major. WRESTLING

The boys and girls wrestling seasons will begin Monday Nov 7th after school. All necessary equipment can be provided, just need athletic registration and athletic physical. If you have any questions at all, please contact Coach Ladd or Coach Westen.
